LaNita Edwards, MACP, LMFT
Hello, my name is LaNita Edwards, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Southern California. I have a diverse background and skillset within the field of mental health, and I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy to support teens and adults impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma/childhood trauma, and day-to-day life stressors.
Before becoming a therapist, I proudly served as a police officer, and I bring that unique perspective into my clinical work. As a retired law enforcement professional, I understand firsthand the emotional toll and psychological challenges that come with serving in uniform. This experience has fueled my passion to provide specialized therapeutic support to police officers and first responders, helping them process trauma, manage stress, and build resilience both on and off duty.
My approach to therapy is to exclusively meet the needs of my clients in hopes of creating and developing their own autonomy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps through collaborative efforts to change thinking patterns, and Solution Focused Therapy helps construct solutions rather than focusing on problems.
I also recognize the unique spiritual and cultural struggles faced by men and women of color, including navigating identity, systemic challenges, and balancing cultural expectations with personal well-being. These experiences often intersect with mental health, and I strive to create a safe, affirming space where clients can explore these issues without judgment.
My communication style is designed to create a serene and peaceful environment where my clients feel safe to share their thoughts, with the hope of helping them overcome the obstacles that have hindered their ability to navigate through life. Whether you're a teen navigating identity, an adult facing life transitions, or a fellow officer seeking healing, I am here to walk alongside you with empathy, insight, and unwavering support.
